Hello to everyone who checks my little site regularly hoping to see something new and is tired of reading about the Koala. I am sorry for the lack of blog.....where does the time go!!
Anyway this will just be quick, I have a few minutes while my youngest brother (and latest house guest) cooks our dinner.
Things here have been good. Steve has been here for a few weeks so we have spent a lot of time doing the tourist things and also just catching up. He has taken an interest in golf so we have been fitting in a few rounds when we can, which has been great as i have not played since leaving Sydney.
Not much else really to tell you, i will be in Sydney to visit dad and my friends for Easter and i am looking forward to seeing everyone again. I hope this time too i will be able to catch up with a few friends i didn't get to see at Christmas, so haven't really seen since i was there in November. Time is just going past way too quickly.
well i had better run i think dinner is just about on the table.
take care

we went to see the Christmas lights and ended up with a koala in our boot
some of you would probably have heard me speak about a couple here on the coast who took 3 1/2 weeks off work to put up their Christmas lights. I thought this was crazy! Anyway curiousity got the better of me and Trev and I headed out last Wed night to see the lights.
On the way I spotted a koala by the side of the road. Having not seen a koala out and about i yelled to Trev to stop and we did so we could have a look at it. However in the few moments it took to get back to it, it had been hit by a car coming in the opposite direction. It was ok though and had run across the other side of the road - it moved pretty quick for something that is usually asleep when we see them at the zoo. Trev gave chase and caught up to it. He took off his shirt and wrapped the koala up in it and we put him in our car boot. We found the number of a 24hr wildlife service and were put in contact with our local wildlife rep. We took the koala off to this mans house so he could check him out and look after him. We were there for about 45mins, this man was just lovely and had a whole range of animals in his care and he was pretty keen to show us around. They had rare baby owls, bats, a possum, day-old ducklings, loads of stuff. He also told us all kinds of stories of rescues and other animals they have looked after. It was all very unexpected and so interesting.
Back on our way again, and by this stage it was pretty late. But we continued on to see the lights. We drove around looking at just the regular houses - with lights that probably took one weekend to put up - and then found the one we had gone to see. It was awesome! words and even photos can not do it justice. There were so many lights and things to see, and they had themes and little sections like Santa's room and the workshop and there was slushy snow on the ground that the mechanical reindeer were eating. It was well worth seeing, and i think they did well to get it all done in just 3 1/2 weeks!!
Im still a bit shocked though, in terms of competition, this place came 3rd! First and second place getters are in Burleigh though so it is a bit of a trek to see them. I can't imagine what they must have in their display that would be bigger and better than the one we saw. Maybe we'll get there next year.

it's lunch time again
well it is lunch time again and it's rainy outside so thought i'd blog again while eating lunch.
We also had some friends visit, which was great. We all had a really good time and i think it really helped put some of the things from the past to rest.
We also have a busy few months ahead of us with quite a few visitor coming our way. Yay!
I am off to Byron Bay this weekend for the Christening of my cousin's daughter. It will be good to catch up with the extended family again.
well that is about it, you are all updated :) and i had better get back to work.

We have been living quite the GC lifestyle of late. Trev's brother bought a boat recently so we have spent most of our weekends picnicing on Stradbroke Island, and fishing and enjoying the sun. It has been fun and i can't wait until we get our own boat so we can take the dogs and go away camping.

It is Indy time here on the GC so Trev and his dad are there today to watch the racing - and probably the accidents given it's raining.

update
Hi, im just having my lunch and thought i'd post a quick update on what is going on in my life. Work is good, i've settled in so much now that i even feel comfortable to request specialty items from the stationery store. I had a new cork notice board put up on my portion of the wall and i got a new squishy ergonomic mouse pad. How exciting! Home is also good. Trev spent the weekend re-doing our garden with all our nice new plants and we put up some fencing around it thinking this time we finally outsmarted Cookies and he wouldn't be able to get in there and destroy it all. We were wrong. Tuesday night we came home to find the plants all up-rooted and the dirt dug up. Trev was very upset but i kind of find it funny (sorry Trev) - its a game we are playing and sadly Trev and I are the losers and it makes me giggle that we are constantly being outsmarted by the little bugger. Oh well, Trev will fix the garden again this weekend and we'll see if we can beat him this time around.
Family are also all good. Dad's treatment has gone well and he is looking to start a different course of treatments shortly to make sure it is all fixed. Hi Dad!! I am off to visit mum this weekend, i haven't seen her in a while so thought i'd get away for a mini break.
Well i've finished my lunch so had better get back to work. But before i go i just have a little shout out, probably none of us hear this enough but i just want to say to Kirsty in sydney, i think you are wonderful and im so glad to be your friend. xxx

Me 1......Jeans......well lets say a few....
I had a victory this morning. After months of thinking to myself i need to do something about my weight and trying half heartedly to actually do something, I had a moment yesterday where i thought i might be a little bit lighter. And just now i took my jeans off the clothes line and put them on.....not so outstanding you might be thinking, scary but certainly not worth blogging about......i didn't need to struggle to get them on and they are a bit loose - straight off the clothes line! Ahhh.....now you understand my happiness :)

The Gold Coast Show
Trev and I took Aaron to the Gold Coast show today. It was a lot of fun but very tiring. It probably also didn't help that i have a bit of a cold and was struggling before we even got there.
One of the main reasons i had wanted to go to the show was because i had entered in the floristry competition. My floristry teacher had encouraged us all to enter so i did. I entered in the amateur table arrangement section, and i was pretty pleased with my efforts. I was looking forward to seeing it in the show and maybe even winning a prize. However my hopes were dashed when at class on Thursday night my teacher pointed out a few structural errors i had made and i was told i didn't do any good. It was a bit sad, and then i was worried that mine was a complete embarrassment to all of us. So it was somewhat of a relief to get there this morning and see that my entry wasn't so bad. It lacked some of the flashiness of the other entries in my category but as this was my first competition i didn't know we had to go over the top - one arrangement had a fish in a bowl in it!! Oh well i'll know for next year.
Then we went outside and went on the rides and played some carnival games, looked at the animals and ate show food. We had a really good day and it was great to have Aaron with us.

The Circle of Life
life is funny, one moment you are at a hospital supporting friends and watching a loved one pass on, and the next you are at a hospital with family celebrating the birth of a child. Today luckily was time to celebrate as we welcomed Tyler Keith in to the world. He is a little cutie and already shows signs of being a true Hollis. I look forward to watching him grow up and one day sharing with him the fact that i was holding him when he did his first poo :)
