The Gold Coast Show

Trev and I took Aaron to the Gold Coast show today. It was a lot of fun but very tiring. It probably also didn't help that i have a bit of a cold and was struggling before we even got there.

One of the main reasons i had wanted to go to the show was because i had entered in the floristry competition. My floristry teacher had encouraged us all to enter so i did. I entered in the amateur table arrangement section, and i was pretty pleased with my efforts. I was looking forward to seeing it in the show and maybe even winning a prize. However my hopes were dashed when at class on Thursday night my teacher pointed out a few structural errors i had made and i was told i didn't do any good. It was a bit sad, and then i was worried that mine was a complete embarrassment to all of us. So it was somewhat of a relief to get there this morning and see that my entry wasn't so bad. It lacked some of the flashiness of the other entries in my category but as this was my first competition i didn't know we had to go over the top - one arrangement had a fish in a bowl in it!! Oh well i'll know for next year.

Then we went outside and went on the rides and played some carnival games, looked at the animals and ate show food. We had a really good day and it was great to have Aaron with us.

thanks guys. Im already thinking of my arrangement for next year, and it is going to be out there!

as for the fish, I was a bit alarmed when i saw it given that we had to submit our arranagements on Wedesday morning and pick them up Sunday - who was feeding it!! or is that the darker side of competitive floristry, it just has to look perfect for the judging and then anything can happen to it. I might of had a better chance of getting a place if the judging was on Sunday and the poor little fish was belly-up....
