Fire

I don't ever remember seeing something on fire that shouldn't have been. However in the few months we have lived here i have seen two fires, and both times have been there so early that we have called 000, however they had already been reported.

One Sunday night a few weeks ago Steven and I went out to get something to cook for dinner. At this stage i didn't realise that the supermarkets shut early evening here. So we were driving around looking for something that was open and when we got to the local shopping centre we found the main outside signage was alight. There is a funny moment when you see something like that, it was just unexpected and there wasn't anyone else around so kind of strange that we were seeing it. The firebrigade arrived not long after we did and we watched them put it out. Then left, still in search of a supermarket open so we could eat.

Our second fire was closer to home, and this time we had food to eat. We were having dinner at home a couple of nights ago. I was sitting at the dining table and Trev had left the table to check something in the study. I was looking out in to our yard when i noticed what i first thought to be dust coming up over our fence - there are loads of hoons in the area so figured someone had done a burn out and that was what i was seeing (and no it didn't register that i hadn't heard it). But it got darker and thicker and just as i called out to Trev, he came running out of the room and outside. I followed to see that a car parked across the road from our house was on fire. I ran inside to call 000 and Trev grabbed the hose off the back of his work truck and started to hose the car down. Not long after this the firebrigade arrived and put the fire out. Last week this car had been parked on our side of the street just up a bit further. It was parked really oddly so Trev had had a closer look, and lucky he did because he knew that the boot was full of paint tins, gas bottles and other highly flammable goodies.

Im a bit of a scaredy cat when it comes to fire so hopefully there isn't a number three to report any time soon.

Things on fire -I have a few recollections
I remember being on top of the Gladsville bridge watching Lane Cove on fire - thinking we were only "draining" there last week!
Donna's hair catching on fire in biology thanks to Trish.
Mr Jones beard catching on fire in chemistry thanks to a bunsen burner
And then there was the bushfires in Canberra.
I am hoping that here in the outer burbs of VIC that I will never go through another week like the one I had in Canberra 2 years ago - your couple of months isn't filling me with hope now !!!!!
Then things come in 3's.
Have a great Christmas and New Years - perhaps you can make a snag catch on fire on the BBQ
