Our first tick

Being from suburban NSW i didn't really know much about ticks, except what i remember from my girl guide days..... if you twist it the wrong way the head will come off and the person will get sick. When we moved to Qld one of the first things our new vet warned us about was ticks..... they are every where and they can kill your dog.

Much to my horror we found our first tick on Cookies last night. Trev also couldn't remember much about ticks or which way to turn it to get it out safely but Steve told us that we just needed to get a good grip on it and pull it out - being the bushman he is, he has had recent experience in removing ticks. So we removed it safely and i thoroughly checked both dogs for more ticks, none were found.

Then this morning, Cookies came in for a cuddle before i had to get up for work and i was just kind of patting him when i found a lump in his ear. I had a look at it and it was a flesh coloured lump and i actually said to him, i didn't know you had a mole in your ear. On closer inspection, it had legs and was another kind of tick. We got it out and checked him over again, we found another two! Argghhh.....

So this morning as i leave for work i am in slight panic mode, luckily Steve is home today though so he can keep an eye on the dogs for me.
